Managing Files: How to Terminate and Attach Files

Adding (attaching) new files to an SPF object is typically performed by executing the command under Files from the Action Menu of the object.  To replace an existing file, users will typically need to remove (terminate) the old file before attaching the one with which it needs to be replaced.  In practice, removal of the old file need only occur first if the file with which it is being replaced has the same name as the old one.
There is an important exception or short-cut to this practice.  Authoring documents (refer to The Structure of a Document) which have been created in SPF to control their revisions and versions, should be replaced through the Edit Files… and Attach / Replace Files… (refer to Edit a Document) command that auto-increment versions of documents as changes are performed to their files.

Replace a File on SPF Objects by Terminating and Attaching Files
1.     Use the Show All Files command to navigate from the SPF object to its files.

2.     Use the Terminate Files command to remove the file.
Note:
  • Only files of specific types can be terminated; generally, the system operating files like .xml cannot be removed.
  • Third party organizations can only terminate files on document versions created by their organization.

3.     Attach the new file using the appropriate command under the Files menu.

4.     Upload and click Finish on the file management screen.
Note: The dialog box will autoclose on completion of the operation.
